Discover the art of wheel throwing in our hands-on 8-week Intro to Wheel Throwing course at oUTSKIRT Studios in Lyman, Maine. Designed for beginners, this course offers personalized instruction in creating functional and decorative pottery using the pottery wheel. Students will learn essential wheel throwing techniques, including centering, pulling walls, forming bowls, mugs, and vases, while developing an understanding of clay preparation, trimming, and basic glazing.
What sets this class apart from other introductory wheel courses is our small class size, individualized attention, and a focus on creative expression alongside technical skill. Participants will also explore surface decoration, texture, and glazing techniques to make each piece uniquely their own. By the end of the 8 weeks, students will have a collection of wheel-thrown pottery and the foundational skills to continue their ceramics journey confidently.

Weekly instruction and demonstrations for beginner potters
Access to studio equipment and storage
Glazes and kiln firings
2 additional hours of independent practice time weekly
