Wheel Throwing: Functional Forms — Intro/Intermediate Pottery Course

Transform clay into objects you'll actually use. This 8-week wheel throwing course at oUTSKIRT Studios in Lyman, Maine is built around one of pottery's most satisfying pursuits: the vessel. Mugs, cups, steins, bowls; the functional pieces that show up every day at your table, your desk, your morning routine.

Designed for beginners and early-intermediate students, this course moves you through the core skills of pottery wheel throwing while introducing techniques that take your work further. You'll learn to center and pull clay, develop consistency in your forms, and explore surface design through slips and oxide washes, giving each piece its own character before it ever reaches the glaze bucket.

With small class sizes and individualized instruction, you'll get real feedback and real progress. By week 8, you'll walk away with a collection of wheel-thrown vessels you made yourself, and the skills to keep making more.

What's included:

  • 25 lbs of clay

  • Weekly instruction and live demonstrations

  • Studio equipment access and between-session storage

  • Slips, oxide washes, glazes, and all kiln firings

  • Unlimited open studio time for independent practice
