FAQs

What does membership look like for ceramics?

We have different levels of ceramics memberships! Whether you want a private space, access to wheels and a shelf area, or just want to occasionally have a piece fired, we’ve got you covered!

See our Ceramics Membership page for pricing and more info!

Do I need to apply to be a ceramics member?

In order to have a membership that involves 24/7 access, you DO need to apply. We want to ensure that you understand how everything in our studio works so you can work independently and keep our spaces safe and clean for everyone.

We do have some membership options that you do not need to apply for.

Do I need to be a member to take a class?

No! Anyone is welcome to sign up for our classes. Our members do receive first notice and special discounts on classes, but everyone is encouraged to join!

Can I fire my own work?

We are limiting kiln access to our experienced studio techs. If you want to be able to fire your own work, please reach out about taking out kiln orientation course. Once completed, you will. be able to reserve space in our kilns and complete firings yourself. Reservations for firing time are required.

I have an individual/private studio space that I rent. Does this automatically get me access to the ceramics studio?

No. If you are renting your own individual/private space, you are likely using your own equipment.

In addition to your studio space, if you would like access to use the community wheels, glazes, or have access to the kiln firing schedule, please contact us about membership details and we can make a plan to get you access to what you need!

Is the studio space accessible?

Our studio is located in an old school building with stairs throughout, and unfortunately it is not fully accessible to individuals with certain mobility needs. We recognize this limitation, and are actively exploring ways to improve accessibility in the future. If you have specific concerns or questions about navigating the space, please don’t hesitate to reach out — we’re happy to talk through what accommodations may be possible.

Do you offer private lessons?

Absolutely! Most of our teachers/techs offer private lessons for all skill levels. Feel free to reach out to Ceramics@outskirt-studios.com to inquire, and if you have a specific instructor in mind please let us know.

Can I bring in my own clay?

If you plan on firing in our kilns, we require that you buy all clay in house. If you plan on firing elsewhere, you are welcome to bring your own clay body. Members can buy clay HERE, or from a studio tech in person. Please allow up to 3 days for fulfillment.

Can I rent more than one shelf?

Of course! Shelves are $50/month and you are welcome to rent up to three at a time.
