Ceramics in the Garden, Thursdays 5:30pm-8pm

$375.00

Thursdays, 5:30pm-8pm, May 7th-June 25th

Bring your garden to life with handmade ceramics designed to thrive outdoors. In this 8-week class, students will explore both wheel throwing and handbuilding to create functional and decorative forms for the garden. From sculptural plant pots to practical irrigation vessels, you’ll make pieces that are both beautiful and built to withstand the elements.

This hybrid course combines wheel work and handbuilding techniques, allowing for a wider range of forms and approaches. If they want to work on the wheel, students should already be comfortable centering clay as instruction will build on foundational skills rather than cover beginner wheel basics. Handbuilding methods such as slab and coil construction will be introduced alongside wheel techniques to support more complex and sculptural projects. Students will have the choice of working across handbuilding and the wheel or creating with just one method.

Projects will include plant pots, ollas (traditional self-watering vessels), bird baths, wind chimes, plant stakes, and other garden-inspired forms. Instruction will emphasize durability, drainage, and weather-friendly finishes to ensure your work can live outdoors year-round.

This class is ideal for students with some prior experience who are ready to expand their skills and explore new ways of working with clay. Demonstrations, guided work time, and individualized feedback will support each student’s creative direction.

By the end of the course, you’ll leave with a collection of unique, functional pieces ready to live in your garden.

What’s included:

  • 25 lbs of clay

  • Weekly instruction and demonstrations (wheel + handbuilding)

  • Access to studio equipment and storage

  • Glazes and kiln firings

  • 2 additional hours of independent practice time weekly
