Ceramics in the Garden – Sundays, 3-5:50pm, September 28th-November 16th

Bring your garden to life with handmade ceramic art in our Ceramics in the Garden 8-week pottery class at oUTSKIRT Studios in Lyman, Maine. This hands-on course guides students of all skill levels through creating functional and decorative outdoor ceramics, including wind chimes, bird feeders, plant pots, ollas, and bird baths. Both handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques are incorporated, allowing participants to explore a variety of forms and methods.

Throughout the course, students will also learn surface decoration, texture, and glazing techniques to enhance their outdoor pieces. This course can be augmented with our Fall Pit Firing Workshop, where students can deepen their connection to the garden by learning how to fire their work within it. In this add on, students have the chance to experiment with unique a outdoor firing methods for striking, one-of-a-kind finishes. Learn more HERE.

By the end of the class, participants will have a collection of custom garden ceramics ready to display, use, or gift, as well as the skills to continue creating durable, vibrant pottery for outdoor settings. This course is perfect for anyone searching for garden ceramics workshops, outdoor pottery classes, or hands-on pottery experiences in Southern Maine.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Handbuilding and wheel throwing for functional garden pieces

  • Techniques for creating wind chimes, planters, bird baths, and ollas

  • Surface decoration and glazing for outdoor durability

  • Optional pit firing and experimental outdoor firing methods

  • Combining form, texture, and color for garden-friendly ceramics

All materials, firing, and glaze supplies are included. Class size is small to allow for personalized instruction and guidance.
